Please note: The Pre-school is likely to close from March 2008.
We are very proud of our village pre-school and we aim to set out here, the main
aims and qualities of the nursery. A nursery school group has been running in
Atworth Village Hall for over 35 years. Pre-school is designed as a preparation
for school and begins the children’s education in the Foundation Stage. We can
offer the following:
HIGH QUALITY
TEACHING
We are
OFSTED registered and we follow the National Curriculum Guidelines. We underwent
an OFSTED inspection in 2007, with the children’s progress being described as
“very good” in many areas. The preschool was rated as “GOOD” overall.
Observation
records are kept for each child, noting each achievement he/she makes towards
their early learning goals. Parents have access to these records and are able to
add their own comments at any time.
Parents may
request a meeting with the Pre-school leader to discuss the progress of their
child at any time during the children’s time at Pre-school, however regular
consultation sessions are arranged.
Our
Pre-school leader is fully qualified to NVQ 3 level and has over 8 years
experience in Nursery Education.

Every term
we arrange with the school’s infant class teacher to take the children to visit
school. She is then able to meet the children in advance of their start at
school. The children’s confidence when they begin school in a familiar place
really is noticeable, allowing them to maximize the benefit of those all
important first weeks at school.
Each
Christmas, the school’s infant class are invited to attend our Christmas
performance.
ORGANISATION
We are a
community pre-school, operated by parents/ guardians as a committee. It is a
self financing, independent organisation that operates under a constitution that
allows us to be a charity. Parents elect a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer at the
AGM. Other parents can join the committee and all parents are welcome to attend
termly meetings.
We are
members of the Pre- School Learning Alliance and a registered charity
