Welcome to Atworth Independent Church (the Chapel by the Clock Tower).

The Chapel has been on this site for over 200 years being built in the 1790’s. In recent years the congregation, whilst keeping their autonomy, affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (F.I.E.C.), a grouping of over 400 varying size Bible believing Churches throughout the country.

Our full doctrinal Basis of Faith will be shown on this site later, but for now suffice it to say we believe the Bible as the inspired Word of God.

Our Pastor, John Schofield, serves both the Union Chapel in Kington Langley, near Chippenham, and the Independent Chapel, Atworth.

Although currently small in number the activities of the Chapel seek to cater for all ages.

A Introduction from the Pastor at Atworth Independent Church

On the 4th June I took on the position of Pastor at the Atworth Independent Church. I live in Kington Langley on the outskirts of Chippenham and Pastor the Union Chapel there which I have done for the past 10 years. I will continue to do this as well as Pastor at Atworth. I will try to be in the village as often as I can and gradually get to know folk.
 
I am married, my wife’s name is Vivien, and have a 14 year old daughter, Amy. I am an ordained Minister and have been in Pastoral work for about 24 years and have lived and worked in various parts of the country.
 
I think we are in for interesting times ahead and I and my family look forward to serving the Church and the Village and its people in any way that we can, as The Lord may lead us.
 
My wife and I are planning to be in the Chapel on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 9.00am until 12.00 noon starting July 15th. If you would like to pop along on any of these Tuesdays for a chat, we would be pleased to meet you (the kettle will always be on).
